X-362 steel drum interior coating is a type of heat-solidify phenolic resin coating applicable to steel drums. As compared with common phenolic resin coatings, it can significantly improve the adhesion of the steel drum sheet material and bend resistance of the coat, and can extend the pot life of the coating.
Phenolic resin is the earliest resin discovered and put into industrial production among the synthetic resins. It is also one of the most excellent anticorrosion materials. Heat-curable phenolic resin is a type of synthetic macromolecular resin formed through polycondensation between the phenol and the aldehyde under the action of alkali catalyst, of which, active hydroxymethyl on the benzene ring can form compact and stable coat of reticular formation through the cross linking with excessive formaldehyde as contained in the resin. Therefore, it has excellent performances in terms of mold inhibition, corrosion protection as well as damp, oil, and solvent, salt mist and chemical resistance. It can also withstand corrosion of hydrochloric acid of any concentration as well as numerous organic acids, pesticides, ammonia and surfactants. As the methylene bond contained in the phenolic resin can provide stable performance through the cross linking at high temperature, it excels the epoxy resin and unsaturated polyester resin in terms of thermal endurance, which is available for long-term use at 120℃ .
However, as the benzene ring in its molecular structure may subject to nitration and sulfonation reaction, it is vulnerable to the corrosion of such strong oxidized acids as represented by strong sulphuric acid and nitric acid. Furthermore, the phenol group in the molecular structure can endow the hydroxyl group on the benzene ring with subacidity. As the hydrogen contained in it can be replaced by sodium to generate water soluble phenol-sodium substance, it is poor in alkali tolerance, and is vulnerable to fusion phenolic products.
As common heat-solidify phenolic resin coatings mainly use the benzene structure for curing reaction and cross linking, the coat film is normally very brittle, which may yield to rupture even at slight bending. Furthermore, its pot life at the temperature of approximately 20℃ is only three months. However, as X-362 coating is a special steel drum interior coating manufactured based on the modification to heat-curable phenolic resin, it has taken into consideration, the bending of steel drum roll when the bottom cover is sealed as well as the adhesion and level of the steel drum sheet material. Furthermore, the coat on the tin plate can endure the bending at the temperature of over 90℃ , and can ensure the storage period up to one year.
X-362 is available in two colors, namely, transparent brown and yolk yellow, which is characterized by its excellent coat property (its anticorrosion performance excels that of PVF and epoxy coatings despite of the unsatisfactory alkali and oxidized acid resistance) and low unit consumption in terms of spray painting. As one kilogram X-362 steel drum interior coating is available for spray painting for more than eight 200 liter steel drums, it is widely applied to the steel drum interior coating owing to its advantages over the price.
It is appropriate to reduce the spray painting viscidity of X-362 steel drum interior coating, so as to control the lead time at approximately 12 seconds (Tu-4 cup, 25℃ ), and ensure the thinner coat; otherwise, it may cause blistering to the coat in case of roasting. Standard roasting condition for oven as well as reference roasting condition is respectively 45 minutes at 190℃ and 15 minutes at 220℃ . Specific conditions can be specified as per different roasting equipments after experiment.
